About the course

Safer moving starts with the person, not just the task.

Moving and Handling of People is a practical course designed for anyone who may need to assist, support or reposition another person safely. The session introduces the principles of safer moving and handling, while considering the needs, abilities, dignity and comfort of the person being supported.

Learners explore risk assessment, safer working practices, body mechanics, communication and the appropriate use of moving and handling equipment. Practical demonstration and learner participation help turn the principles into techniques that can be applied with greater confidence.

The aim is to support safer, more person-centred practice — reducing unnecessary risk while helping protect both the person being assisted and those providing the support.
